Alternative Economics Society

The Alternative Economics Society aims to make university economics courses more realistic and relevant to the modern world.

We believe that economics needs to address the problems of modern society - such as rising inequality, climate change and the development of the Global South. Economics, as it is currently taught, doesn't take these issues seriously enough.

We invite a diverse range of speakers to give talks at the university, and campaign for the department to change the way it teaches economics. Students should learn a holistic picture of how the economy functions, rather than being given abstract models, with little relevance to the real world, taught as fact.

Our society is free to join and open to all students who think economics is too male, pale and stale.

All of our clubs and societies are run by a committee.

A committee is a team of people that lead, organise and publicise a group within your Students' Union.

It can be really rewarding as well as being a great way to gain experience and invaluable skills for your future career.
