Sheffield Filmmaking Society (FilmSoc) is a University of Sheffield, student-run society for keen, young filmmakers, regardless of experience, to learn techniques of the trade and make films.

Having been an active society for over 20 years, FilmSoc has had 100s of members with many starting as complete novices and by the end some even going on to form production companies and make feature films. The thing that everybody in the society has in common is a real passion for film and a drive to learn and make their stories into a reality.

We have weekly meetings to learn and practice our filmmaking skills, as well as to brainstorm and develop short films, where we really encourage people to bring their film ideas and scripts to the table as we love the passion it can bring to projects. We have weekly meetings to learn and practice our filmmaking skills, as well as to brainstorm and develop short films, where we really encourage people to bring their film ideas and scripts to the table as we love the passion it can bring to projects. We also run regular open creativity meetings where we work to help develop and share our ideas as well as a film discussion group to share our passion and insight of film. But with a varied committee of editors, directors, actors, sound designers, cinematographers and writers, we can try to help you learn all parts of filmmaking.

Checkout our website and social links below to see the variety of short films we've made over the years. Also like our Facebook page and join the mailing list to stay updated with news for meetings, workshops, socials and film shoots!

Committee

All of our clubs and societies are run by a committee.

A committee is a team of people that lead, organise and publicise a group within your Students' Union.

It can be really rewarding as well as being a great way to gain experience and invaluable skills for your future career.
