Friends of Irise Society
Political, Campaigning or CharityFriends of Irise are a student led society aiming to bring together like- minded people who are interested in the issue of global gender equality.
Friends of Irise are ambassadors for the charity Irise International http://www.irise.org.uk/ , who campaign on this issue of gender equality, envisioning a world in which no girl is held back by their period. Their work is based mainly in East Africa.
As ambassadors to the charity, Friends of Irise aim to further this vision by organising panel events, fundraisers and campaigns. Notable events have been 'Moonrise', which is a DJ night ran at the Harley in Sheffield throughout the year and 'Be Wise for Irise', a series of pub quizzes held at Sheffield's Uni Arms. More information and pictures of our events can be found on our facebook page.
Friends of Irise operates through a core committee and a pool of volunteers so you can get as involved as suits you, either through coming to our Moonrise events or volunteering at our events throughout the academic year.
We are a really relaxed society and are always open to meeting anyone who is interested in global gender equality, so we hope you'll consider joining us!
All of our clubs and societies are run by a committee.
A committee is a team of people that lead, organise and publicise a group within your Students' Union.
It can be really rewarding as well as being a great way to gain experience and invaluable skills for your future career.
