Join This Group

GraphCAD is a student society aimed at improving students' technical skills in marketing, engineering and creative media industries by delivering courses and competitions in Graphic Design and 3D modelling. We are constantly looking for talented and passionate students to get involved with our activities.

Going online on Blackboard!

In the upcoming semester, GraphCAD is moving ONLINE! All of our courses are being prepared carefully to ensure the highest quality of teaching and will be delivered through Blackboard just like your usual university modules. Blackboard allows us to retain our interactive features that help distinguish our courses from just a tutorial video. Students will be able to virtually raise their hands and ask questions in the virtual chat all of which can be answered by the assistant tutors. Special breakout rooms allow tutors to interact with students on a one on one basis and help them with their questions.

Courses

Our courses are all 10 hours and will start mid-October. They are designed to not require any previous knowledge or experience and everybody is welcome to join any of them (although students of the disciplines mentioned in brackets might find them especially useful). So whether you want to enhance your skills or just try out something new, GraphCAD's courses are for you!

UPCOMING GRAPHCAD ONLINE COURSES

IN 2020 AUTUMN SEMESTER

If you want to challenge yourself, let us make you better.

Solidworks for Beginners 5-Week Course

Want to learn Solidworks but don’t know how to start? Learn the basic skills necessary to create 3D geometry using the software in under 10 hours. On this course, you will learn the user interface and basic methods of sketching, dimensioning and constraining. You will learn how to build 3D models from engineering drawings using different techniques such as Extrusion, Revolving and Sweeps. Towards the end of the course, you will be taught the basics of assembling parts, production of technical drawings, how to animate models and create exploded views. This is an excellent course for those doing engineering and interested in 3D modelling and printing. A certificate will be given for full completion of the course.

This is a society led session and is HEAR accredited.

This course runs weekly for 5 weeks from the start date.

MATLAB Essentials 5-Week Course

Matrix Laboratory (MATLAB) is a powerful technical programming software used in Engineering, Finance, Architecture and many other industries. Whether you are analysing data, developing algortihms or creating models, this course will teach you over 5 weeks the fundamentals of MATLAB scripting, starting with basic mathematics and statements before moving on to carrying out functions, analyses and calculus. You will learn to produce process images and experience the many add-ons in MATLAB including Simulink which is used for dynamic and embedded system control design.

ANSYS CFD 5-Week Course

Ever wanted to know the downforce produced by your favourite sports car but never had the money to buy it? (if you are a student we understand) The ANSYS CFD course is for you. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) allows you to simulate internal flow (through pipes) and external flows (over and around objects) to help you determine the outcome before running real experiments. In the first week of the course you will be guided on how to use the ANSYS workbench and model 2D laminar flow problems. By Week 5, you will have been exposed to 3D geometry and meshing, tackled different flow models and introduced to convective heat transfer.

This is a society led session and is HEAR accredited.

LaTeX 2-Week Course

Do you find yourself spending hours on formatting your report right before the deadline? If you are writing a report with lots of figures, equations, cross-references (the list goes on), then LaTeX is perfect for you! LaTeX allows you to easily format your report, add citations, tables and more. Produce elegant, high-quality documents with less effort -- most publications in the fields of mathematics, science and engineering use LaTeX as the preferred typesetting system. You can focus on the content of your document, while LaTeX will handle the formatting to ensure consistently professional results. In this course, you will learn how to typeset not just documents, but presentations and graphics as well.
