HSTSOC Welcome to the University of Sheffield History Society! We at the History Society are here to cater for all your history-based education and social needs, and to ensure that your years at Sheffield studying history are as great as they can be! We're one of the biggest and best societies at Sheffield (winning Departmental society of the year in 2019 and 2020) and we provide a huge range of services for all our members! What can we offer you? This year we're piecing together an exciting range of activities and benefits including: Social events - We hold a number of fantastic socials – both sober and otherwise - throughout the year including: Fresher’s social, black tie events, themed socials throughout the year, sports socials and MANY more! As well as discount cards to bars across the city. Sports – The society includes highly successful Football and Netball teams whilst also looking to reintroduce a Hockey team this year. Volunteering - 2019/2020 saw our most successful volunteering ever, with frequent Sunday Centre visits helping the homeless, increased litter picks and HSTSOC’s Oral History Project. Charity – The society participates in many activities over the academic year raising thousands for our chosen charities; events include: The Sheffield half marathon, Student Union spider walk, Charity auctions and pub quizzes. Education – The society holds essay clinics, talks and presentations from graduates, lecturers, travellers and volunteers to enhance members Historical experience in Sheffield. As well as holding our annual trip to a major city to explore its historical sites. Trip abroad - In February, HSTSOC escapes Sheffield for an annual and always eventful trip to a European city. Previous trips include Amsterdam, Berlin, Krakow and Prague. Career events – HSTSOC work with the History department to offer Career events and opportunities to help members upon graduation. and much much more across the year... Finally you'll be joining, as previously mentioned, one of the largest and of course best societies at the university. It's a fantastic way to meet, talk and most importantly socialise with new people from across the history course. A committee is a team of people that lead, organise and publicise a group within your Students' Union.
It can be really rewarding as well as being a great way to gain experience and invaluable skills for your future career.
