Latin and Ballroom Dancing Society

Ever wanted to be able to dance like the strictly stars? Come and learn the elegant Waltz, the energetic Quickstep, the cheeky Cha Cha Cha or the jumpin' Jive! This is your chance to give dancing a go! No partner required! It's never too late to start!

We welcome all students from the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University, and we offer lessons for all levels, from complete beginners to experienced dancers. We also welcome ex-students. Unlike many other dancing societies, we cater for both competitive and casual dancers. We encourage everybody to dance in the team, but people are very welcome to join us and dance for fun. We also hold a variety of socials and go social dancing so there’s ways to really get involved in the society and meet lots of new people.

We teach the following dances (you can find out more about them on our website): Ballroom: waltz, quickstep, tango, slow foxtrot, viennese waltz Latin: cha cha cha, jive, samba, rumba, paso doble.

Usually we attend around 8 competitions a year all around the country, this includes the Winter Gardens in Blackpool, the capital of ballroom dancing. We also hold our own competition right here in Sheffield every February! These competitions have categories from beginner to advanced so no matter your dance experience your always welcome to join us!

Due to COVID the way we can function is currently limited. Many of our classes will be more technique based and Latin focused as this is easier to do online and without a partner. For the time being many of out classes will be online however we are working to be able to get you some socially distanced in person classes as soon as the givernment and SU say it is safe to do so.

If you want to see if our society is for you then come along to one of our Give it ago sessions or come along to one of our sessions. More information on the time of sessions will be available at the beginning of the semester

You can purchase your membership on the SU website. Contact us If you'd like to join or you have any questions, you can contact and follow us on our social media.

Come allong to our Give it ago on Friday 2nd of October! Resgister through this link

We hope to see you soon!

All of our clubs and societies are run by a committee.

A committee is a team of people that lead, organise and publicise a group within your Students' Union.

It can be really rewarding as well as being a great way to gain experience and invaluable skills for your future career.
