Music Players' Society

9 Bands. No Auditions.

With nine bands covering a range of styles - from classical and film music to blues, rock and funk - there's something to interest all musicians at the Music Players' Society. We welcome students and post-grads from both Sheffield universities and we don't audition - so everybody is welcome.

We put on a range of live performances throughout the year - at venues ranging from bars and nightclubs to the ballrooms at Sheffield City Hall. With regular weekly rehearsals, there's always a band to come along to in your free time, and with our international tours we also give our members the opportunity to perform all over Europe.

Looking to add live music to your party or event? We can help with that too. Our bands are all bookable at highly competitive prices and all perform at a very high standard. Get in touch for a quote. If you would like information on joining the society or booking one of our bands, please get in touch via or our Facebook page.

Membership to the Music Players' Society is usually £5 for 1 year and £3 for 1 semester. Membership allows you to play in as many of our bands as you like and also in our gigs. If you haven't been to any of our rehearsals yet, we'd love to meet you, and you can come along to your first two rehearsals for free before we ask you to pay membership.

But don't worry- for semester 1 of 2020-2021, as we are not running any rehersals, there is no need to buy membership until semester 2. New members are welcome at any point during the year. To pay simply press the "Join This Group" button at the top of this page!

All of our bands rehearse weekly during term time at 38 Mappin Street, Sheffield, S1 4DT. Come along to a rehearsal at any time to try one out. Join the Facebook groups of the bands you are interested in for more information. We look forward to meeting you!

All of our clubs and societies are run by a committee.

A committee is a team of people that lead, organise and publicise a group within your Students' Union.

It can be really rewarding as well as being a great way to gain experience and invaluable skills for your future career.
