We are SUPAS (Sheffield University Performing Arts Society), a society specialising in musical theatre, putting together big musicals as well as other smaller projects and charity events throughout the year.

Anyone who wants to be involved with performing arts will find something to suit them in SUPAS whether that be playing in a band, being part of a technical team, or in a cast. Regardless of ability or previous experience, we strive to give everyone an opportunity to get involved.

Our overall aim is to create a friendly environment in which people can make new friends, build confidence and improve their skills with each new experience.

Some of our past shows include: 'Jekyll & Hyde', 'Little Shop of Horrors', 'Legally Blonde', 'Chicago', 'Made in Dagenham', 'Into the Woods', 'The Addams Family', ‘Fiddler on the Roof’, 'The Producers', 'Urinetown'', 'Evita', 'Sweeney Todd', ‘West Side Story', 'Footloose' and 'RENT’.

This semester is a bit different to what we’re normally used to and due to restrictions we are having to try some new things.

The best place to find out what’s going on in SUPAS is to head to our Facebook page and to join our ‘SUPAS Updates’ group. From ‘SUPAS Updates’ you will be able to join our mailing list to receive our weekly newsletter!

What else do we do?

As well as at least three musicals each academic year (normally!), we put on a number of smaller projects, workshops and popular open mic socials called ‘Sessions’.

We also host 'Musical Theatre Monday' sessions in which we work towards learning musical numbers either to be performed in a showcase or just for fun!

We also have our very own weekly radio show on Forge Radio (The University of Sheffield’s student radio station), where we chat about all things musical. Check out some of our shows here on MixCloud:

All of our clubs and societies are run by a committee.

A committee is a team of people that lead, organise and publicise a group within your Students' Union.

It can be really rewarding as well as being a great way to gain experience and invaluable skills for your future career.
