Following discussions with Students' Union President, Dominic Trendall, Sheffield First Buses have agreed to freeze their student single fare across Sheffield at £1.
Combating bus fare rises was one of Dom's initial manifesto points, a platform on which he won to be President. He began conversations with First Buses last autumn with the aim of working with them to ensure that bus fares were kept down for students.
Dom said: "I ran to be your SU President, promising to work on bus fare for students. I am thrilled to say that after conversations with First, we have managed to maintain the bus fare at £1 for the foreseeable future."
Allan Riggal from First Buses said: “Following discussions with Dominic Trendall, your student union president, we are delighted to announce we will be freezing the student single fare across Sheffield at £1. First Bus recognise how important public transport is to young people, especially those in education. We are committed to both, offering and delivering a value for money service students can rely on in Sheffield”
Recently Dom has been working hard on developing the Students' Union's relationship with local bus companies, and has also helped introduce the new post Poptarts Saturday Nightbus this year (again in collaboration with First Buses).
