Sheffield has been twinned with the beautiful city of Estelí in Nicaragua for 35 years, and our University has been twinned with FAREM university for the last 10 years! Our society runs exciting events throughout the year to raise awareness and fundraise for projects in Sheffield and Estelí to strengthen the tie. Our most important event in the year is Estelí Week, a whole week filled with fun events that you can get involved in! The culmination of this work ends with a 6 week placement in Estelí for 10 lucky students, to teach English and take part in a cultural exchange.
The Trip: Each year a group of Sheffield students travel to Estelí and you could be one of them! The trip involves a 6 week placement teaching English to students aged 16+, and taking part in cultural exchange workshops to share both our cultures.
During the 6 weeks you live with a host family who provide you with all your food, this means you get a full immersion in the latin american culture. It is a great way to learn or improve your spanish skills.
The trip is low cost as all you have to pay for are flights (£500) and accomodation with a host family ($60 a week).
The trip starts mid-June and ends around the end of July!
This trip also gives you a great jumping off point for independent travel after around the rest of beautiful Nicaragua, as well as the rest of Central America.
