Hi and welcome to Sheffield Students’ Union!
I’m Ali Day, the Education Officer at Sheffield Students’ Union and I’ve been elected to represent you and support you during your academic studies. This means representing your views to the University and campaigning to improve your education, as well as supporting Postgraduate Students’ Committee.
Sheffield Students’ Union has been ranked number 1 for 5 years in a row and that is down to the diverse opportunities that we provide. Our Students' Union is as much for Postgraduate students as it is for Undergraduate students. Together we’ll enhance your studies, and ensure your experience of Sheffield is the best it can be.

Festival of the Mind (15-25 Sept) brings research to life in exciting, entertaining and innovative ways. The Students' Union are hosting the festival's 'Spiegeltent at Night', featuring comedy, music, talks, and DJs. See our What's On calendar and click on Special Events.
Off The Shelf Festival (8-29 Oct) is one of the largest literary festivals in the UK, attracting some of the best-known names in literature and media to Sheffield each year; with 200+ events, many of which are hosted here in your SU.
Our purpose is to encourage social interaction between postgraduate students from all departments and walks of life. We aim to make your postgraduate study at Sheffield as enjoyable as possible by offering a friendly, relaxed environment in which you can mingle with fellow students.
We organise a number of events per month which can range from pub quiz nights and coffee evenings to hiking and football. We try to offer a wide variety of events to suit all tastes. Why not come along a try a few during Intro Week?
Your Postgraduate Society will be organising various welcome events and activities for when you arrive. These are a great opportunity to meet fellow postgraduates, and take some well earned time out to socialise and see different parts of the Sheffield.

We are a representative committee, which aims to support and represent postgraduate students in both the Students' Union and University. We want to bring together various PG groups, forums and networks from across the university to collaborate, with a view to improving the experience of all postgraduate students. Both PGR and PGT students are welcome to express their ideas and opinions. This year we want to run campaigns on postgraduate welfare and educational experience, but we also want to hear your ideas too!
Our own Student Advice Centre offers advice, support and representation for students on issues relating to your money, course, accommodation, or job. They also specialise in many postgraduate specific issues such as postgraduate funding, exam re-sits for postgraduate taught students, and PhD supervision.
