Approaching a loved one with your concerns is not easy but doing so will help them realise that they have a problem and that help is available.
Bite Back Support Group is a support group for students at both universities who have an eating disorder. It is run in association with South Yorkshire Eating Disorders Association (SYEDA).
Eating disorders are most commonly caused by a combination of difficult or distressing events and emotions; academic stress, pressure to achieve, a sudden change in lifestyle, low self-esteem, feelings of loneliness or a specific traumatic event. These factors can affect people of any gender, race or culture at any point in their life.
There are different types of eating disorders, each with their own defining symptoms and characteristics. You may find that your thoughts, behaviour and feelings all fit into a single category. You may find that you have a combination of symptoms from different categories. Everyone is different. The types of eating disorder listed here are just a guide to help you, your doctor and your loved ones figure out what is going on and what can be done to help.
