This week, Sheffield Students’ Union together with the University of Sheffield launch their joint Campus Cup scheme which aims to save waste and you money when you purchase hot drinks across campus.

You can join the scheme for a £5 deposit, and in return you will get a Campus Cup band. Then, just show the band at any participating Sheffield Students’ Union or University Cafe when buying a regular hot drink to take away. You will receive your drink in one of our reusable campus cups, plus get 20p off as a thank you for not using a disposable cup.

When you’re finished, just return the cup to any participating outlet across University campus, but keep hold of your band for next time. If you ever want to leave the scheme simply return your band to a participating outlet and you’ll get your £5 back.

The scheme is the first of its kind for a University in the UK, and has been put in place thanks to the work of your Development Officer, Megan McGrath. She said:

'Every year, the UK throws away 2.5 billion coffee cups. Disposable cups take over 25 years to break down in landfills and whilst doing so generate the greenhouse gas methane. They also require regular transportation to reach outlets.’

‘This scheme helps us and the University reduce our environmental impact, and is another example of our ongoing commitment to Sustainability. So join the scheme and save waste and money!’

To get your band visit any University outlet, or the Students’ Union Welcome Desk (this week only)!
