Develop, Debate, Lead

Referenda are the way that we make big decisions about the future of the Students’ Union.

Voting for Referenda will open online at sheffieldsu.com/vote at 10am on Monday 25th February and close at 5pm on Thursday 28th February.

This year's proposals are:

Should Sheffield SU remain affiliated to the National Union of Students (NUS)? and Should the SU create the positions of 'Societies Councillor' and 'Sports Councillor' on SU Council?

These proposals are now available here.

Come along to the Referenda 2019 Debate on Wednesday 20th February 2019 5pm-7pm in the Activities and Sports Zone in the SU to hear what other students think about these big questions and to have your say!

You can view the referenda regulations here.

The SU’s Democracy and Campaigns team are on hand to help with further information on how you can get involved. You can speak to or message the SU team:

Contact elections@sheffield.ac.uk or call into the office, behind the Activities Zone Desk next to Coffee Rev in the SU.

For more information, you can also check out our All About Officer Elections 2019 guide.

£40 is set aside for you to use in your campaign (in line with election rules which are there to ensure fairness).

The other people standing can be a big source of inspiration, support and ideas. Events will keep you in touch with your fellow candidates from start to finish.

The day will include a range of topics designed to help you through the process, from campaigning, to social media and debating.

During voting, daily breakfast sustenance and voting stats will be on hand to fuel your final efforts, whether you choose coffee and croissants or herbal tea and fruit.
