NUS Disabled Students Conference Delegate

The winner of the election for Delegate to NUS Disabled Students’ Conference is Edward Williamson.

NUS LGBT+ Students Conference Delegates

For LGBT+ Conference Sheffield SU is entitled to send a delegation of 8 students. Within our delegation we also have to comply with liberation quotas set by NUS to try and achieve fairer representation. The available spaces within the delegation are: 2 Open places, 3 places for self-defining women students, 1 place for a BME student, 1 place for a self-defining Disabled student and 1 place for a self-defining Trans student. In addition, at least half of the delegation must be self-defining Women students.

If we are unable to satisfy these liberation quotas within the 8 candidates elected by preferences then top preferences are allocated places within the delegation until we have exhausted the possibility of satisfying liberation quotas. At this point candidates further down the list of preferences will be appointed to the delegation to enable us to achieve liberation quotas.

The winners of the election for Delegates to NUS LGBT+ Students’ Conference are George Bunn, Kate Foy, Allie Mackintosh, Stuart McMillan, Natalia Mole, Elliott O'Rourke, Shivalik Poovaiah and Ashley Sanchez Sevilla Uruchurtu.

NUS National Conference Delegate

Sheffield Students' Union has a delegate entitlement of 8 for NUS National Conference. Our SU President is automatically appointed to the delegation. We are required to ensure that at least 50% of our delegation are self-identifying Women students - this is to ensure fair representation and is a principle further mandated within our own Gender Quotas for NUS Delegates Policy.

When the Election is first returned if the winning 7 candidates do not enable us to send at least 4 Women students then we follow a process to ensure fair representation. We first disqualify all men from the election and recount. The top 4 women are then elected to the delegation. (Stage 1)These winning women are then disqualified from the election and another recount is run. The top 3 preferences are then elected to the remaining spaces in the delegation, regardless of gender. (Stage 2) For any questions on this please get in touch at elections@sheffield.ac.uk.
