#WeAreNotAVirus

After the outbreak of Coronavirus, there have been some incidents of Asian students in Sheffield facing harassment and isolation for wearing face masks.

Led by our International Students’ Officer, Sissi, we are supporting the #WeAreNotAVirus campaign to tackle this prejudice. We want to ensure all our students feel supported and valued, and educate our community on the reasons why some students choose to wear masks.

Many students wear masks to protect themselves from air pollution, viruses, or allergens. Some may even choose to wear a mask if they are not wearing make up. Other students may have colds or coughs that they don’t want to pass to others.

You can share your own reason by posting a selfie with a face mask on social media using the #WhyIWearAMask. Or you can post a message of solidarity with the #WeAreNotAVirus

If you or anyone else is subjected to abuse on campus or at University residences, and need immediate or urgent support, please call the University's Security Service on 0114 222 4444. You can report any incidents that you experience or witness through Report and Support.

We are not a virus, we are human. End Prejudice
