Refreshers Fair: Get Involved!

Tuesday 11th February 11:00-16:00, Octagon Centre

Whether you're wanting to try something new, or carry on with a previous hobby, Get Involved has hundreds of opportunities under one roof. We've got hundreds of societies to join, a vast selection of sports teams, volunteering opportunities and many local employers from Sheffield.

Explore the fair and find what works for you!

Housing Information Fair

Tuesday 11th February 11:00-15:00, Students’ Union Gallery - Level 4

Sheffield has a great selection of student accommodation, with plenty available to suit your needs.

At the SU, we only allow reputable landlords, agents and accommodation providers to attend the fair, so it’s the perfect place to meet the landlords that are in line with our standards. All of the landlords and lettings agents you will meet at the fair have properties that are registered with the Sheffield City Council's SNUG scheme or with Smart Move Sheffield.

Also at the fair will be representatives from the Student Advice Centre, Welfare Committee and Sheffield City Council.

Wellbeing at the Fairs

The fairs are extremely popular so this generally involves a considerable amount of queuing to get inside. If this is likely to cause you difficulties as a result of your disability you can get queue jump for both fairs. Please go to the SU Welcome Desk and just ask the team for a Queue Jump Sticker and one will be put on your U-Card.

You’ll need to show your U-Card to the Security Staff at the entrance to the Octagon to skip the queue (please use the same pass for every fair). Alternatively, you can report to the Welcome Desk who’ll be able to radio the Event Manager to assist you with getting into the Fair via the front of the queue.

The stickers from the Welcome Desk also gains you queue jump to all Foundry club and live events. If you have any questions about the scheme please email foundryaccessibility@sheffield.ac.uk.

We’re conscious that the queueing area will still feel busy and once inside the fairs, the crowds might feel overwhelming for some students. If you’d like any help to attend the fairs, a fellow student or Sabbatical Officer can meet with you as a Wellbeing Buddy to show you around the fair and help ensure that you’ve seen and spoken with everyone you’d like to.

The Wellbeing Buddy would arrange to meet with you at the Student Union Welcome Desk and then go to the fair together.

To sign up for this, please use this link.

To help you to plan your visit to the fairs, digital maps of the room layout for the fairs will be available to view on the Fairs web pages when they have been confirmed. A limited supply of hard copies will be available during Refreshers Week; however, maps of the Freebies and Get Involved Fairs will all be available on the Students’ Union website.

Each of the Intro Fairs will have a dedicated Quiet Space in the Octagon meeting rooms. These will be clearly signposted and are free to use for any individual should you need some time to take a break

Please note there is also dedicated Quiet Room which can be found on Level 2 of the Students’ Union building, outside Committee Central. This space is accessible for anyone to use at any point throughout the academic year. Should you have any difficulties accessing this space, please speak to a member of the Students’ Union Welcome Desk, just inside the entrance, who’ll be more than happy to assist.

The Refreshers: Get Involved fair will also have a ‘Quiet Time’ whereby the first 30 minutes of the Fair will have no music, performances or shout-outs. Attendees are advised to arrive at this time should they wish to get involved in a much calmer experience of the Fair. Please note, this is unable to be implemented at the Freebies Fair; however, we would actively encourage students to request a Wellbeing Buddy as an alternative.
