Bookable Spaces

The Students' Union offers rooms that are available for staff and students to book mainly during term-time, but also over vacation periods too (reduced hours availability). All rooms and equipment are free of charge to Students' Union-recognised societies, working and representative committees and clubs except the Auditorium, where hire charges may apply. For a list of University teaching rooms, which need to be booked through University Room Bookings, see The Directory of Teaching Space.

Remember - if you are inviting an external speaker to your event, you must submit an External Speaker Form at least 3 weeks in advance of your activity.

The online room bookings system is currently open to registered student groups for Semester 2 bookings. University staff please email su-roombookings@sheffield.ac.uk with your booking enquiry.

Room Bookings For Semester 2 (2017)

How do I book a room for Semester 2?

If you are a registered Society, Working Committee or Club, then your nominated 'room bookers' can book a room in the SU through the online system - this is now open. You are authorised to book rooms until 9 June 2017 (the last day of Semester 2).

In order to make your booking, you should:

What if I haven't got the room allocation I need?

  • If your group has specific requirements to meet your core aims and objectives, and you have been unable to book the space/s you need, then please visit either of the desks (Welcome or Activities Zone) to complete a paper form of your requirements, explaining what spaces you need. We will look at these over the summer to try our best to support you.
  • Remember that there are alternative spaces that you can book outside of the SU if required. This includes: spaces at Endcliffe/Residences (see below for information), University Room Bookings, or externally. If you do need to pay for rehearsal space, then remember you can apply for funding to help you.

Can I book No 66 through the system?

  • This is a great additional rehearsal space for societies to book. The online system will allow you to book this space on weekdays
5pm-10pm or weekends 12-6pm. If you want to book the space outside of those hours, you can do so by emailing
    su-roombookings@sheffield.ac.uk

Remember - if you'd like to book a room or space for an event, please do not book a room through the online system. Complete this event enquiry form and the SU Events Team will be in touch to discuss your requirements. For further queries, please contact su-events@sheffield.ac.uk

For any questions, or if you're not a student group but would still like to book a room, please contact: su-roombookings@sheffield.ac.uk

If you are an external company looking to book commercial advertising space:

  • Please call 0114 222 8540 for more information

Music Practice Room

  • If you want to book the music practice room and have not booked this before then please complete this form and include your university email address. Once registered then please visit the Welcome Desk in the Students' Union to book your sessions. Please note this room cannot be booked out for private music lessons.

The Students' Union must also consider the risks of all its activities and has a legal responsibility for people visiting the premises, in particular for those who are more vulnerable such as children and young people. As stated above, The Gallery, Activities and Sports Zone and our bookable spaces were not designed with children in mind, but children are welcome if they are accompanied by an adult. These spaces may be booked for organised child-friendly activities, but a risk assessment must be completed first. Please contact us for more information on this.

SU Music SuiteType: Creative

The studio is located above the entrance to the SU on the Gallery Terrace and the key can be collected from the welcome desk after booking through SU online room bookings system.

The studio has been designed for three purposes.

1.     Practice room (Basic use of space).

In the room there is a weighted, 88 hammer action key digital piano with internal speakers for the more confident musicians and earphones for those wanting to play in privacy. For those missing the feel and experience of playing a traditional piano, we relocated the old music room piano to the SU Auditorium. This is available to book Monday-Friday 9am-6pm when the space is not already booked out for lectures & events by emailing @su-roombookings@sheffield.ac.uk

2.     Rehearsal space with recording facilities.

This suite will allow eight simultaneous recording inputs and 32 channels of playback. The workstation has on board EQ, effects and will master your mix to either SD card or internal CD recorder (CDs not supplied).

The first time this equipment is booked for your rehearsal there will be a 30 minute induction by a member of the Technical Services department. Please ensure you leave enough time for this induction in your schedule.

3.   Digital mastering suite

This suite will allow eight simultaneous inputs to Cubase 8 Pro through the Focusrite Pro 40 digital interface. Cubase 8 is probably the most efficient DAW software available today. The software has unlimited midi and audio tracks, EQ, effects and numerous sequencing capabilities.

Limited available slots between 10am - 8pm depending on the day of the week.

The Music room is not available for University Staff to book. Students' Union Staff can book during non peak times for the same day only, peak times if available at the time required (immediate request).
