Our safety measures

When you visit any part of our building* you’ll be greeted on the door by one of our team. They’ll scan your UCard (or take your email address if not available), for Test and Trace purposes.

(*excluding Coffee Revolution take away service)

Throughout the building you will see hand sanitizer stations, social distancing signage and floor stickers, and increased cleaning of spaces by our staff. As with buildings across the University campus, you will need to wear a mask inside our building unless eating or drinking in one of our outlets.

All of our outlets are now cashless to reduce the risk of contracting Covid-19 from handling money. Pay for items via card, phone, or in our cafes and bars, through our new Student Orders app.

Bar One, Coffee Revolution, and the Interval Kitchen + Bar are now using our new Student Orders app. This allows you to browse our menus, order, and pay directly from within the app. Your food and drink is then delivered to your table. Why not download and register in advance of your visit:

We’ve reduced the number of entrances to our building to control its capacity and ensure those inside can social distance. View our map or see the What’s Open section for how to get to the service or outlet you need.

Visitors are required to use face masks throughout the building (as across most other University campus locations), except when eating and drinking in one of our cafes or bars.

What’s missing and why?

Our focus has been to reopen where able, those services which cannot be delivered remotely, such as cafes and bars. However there are various services and spaces that we cannot currently operate due to Covid-19 guideline limitations or financial constraints.

In some instances we cannot provide a service and adhere to the Government’s Covid-19 guidelines at the same time. We need to ensure visitors are able to effectively social distance, that spaces are kept clean between different users visiting, and that indoor gatherings are limited to maximum of 6 people. This limits some of our activity.

In others circumstances, the financial impact is too great. Sheffield SU is a registered charity, and Covid-19 has had a devastating impact on our finances. All our income generating outlets were forced to close for months, and the University, concerned with their own financial position, has had to cut all faculties and services budgets by 15%, which includes the SU’s block grant. This has inevitably led to staff and budget cuts. There are also additional costs in making certain facilities Covid-19 safe, meaning some are not currently viable.

We’re working hard to bring you more of what you love soon but in the meantime please bear with us! And if you do want to further support the SU please consider making a donation, and remember that money spent in the SU stays in the SU.

Coming Soon:

Nights Out: Our extensive club night and live music programme is poised to return as soon as national guidelines allow. Join our mailing list to find out more

Bookable Rooms and spaces: As we open up more areas in our SU, we’ll be reviewing if we can reopen bookings for student groups.
