First year doesn’t go towards your final grade for your degree. It’s an opportunity to develop new skills and learn the best methods to study that work for you. And by no means does it NOT count. When someone with authority tells you that it doesn’t count after you have done a lot of work, it is demotivating. I can take it from peers, with a pinch of salt, but in first year when I was lost and needed guidance, I was told ‘first year doesn’t count’ far too many times, which I found dismissive and patronising. I believe that the University of Sheffield staff should not be allowed to say that, especially when students go to them for help.
Sorry for the bad grammar guys, I meant Ban staff and lecturers from ‘first year doesn’t count’
